FAQ
What does Live Drummer do?
Live Drummer uses your microphone to listen to your playing and display live tempo feedback in beats per minute (BPM). Use it during practice, rehearsal, or a performance to see your pace while keeping your own feel.
How do I get started?
Open the app, allow microphone access when prompted, and tap Start the Show. Choose Practice or a set list and start playing. Keep the phone where its microphone can hear your kit and you can comfortably see the display. No account or calibration step is required.
What does the BPM number mean?
BPM means beats per minute. The live number is the app’s estimate of the tempo it hears. For example, 120 BPM represents two beats per second. The reading can change as your playing or the sound reaching the microphone changes.
How is the target tempo different from live BPM?
The target is your reference: the tempo you intend to play. Live BPM is the tempo the app detects. Setting a target does not change the detected reading. Compare the two to see where you are relative to your intended pace.
How do I use Practice mode?
Choose Practice when you want to work on a groove without selecting a song from a set list. You can add an optional target tempo as a reference, watch the live reading while you play, and pause or resume monitoring when you need a break.
How do set lists and song notes work?
Create a set and add your songs. Give each song an optional target BPM and notes, such as an intro reminder or a cue for the final chorus. Select a set and song to bring those details into view, then use Next Song to move through the set. You can reorder songs and switch back to Practice.
Do I need a target tempo for every song?
No. Targets are optional in Practice and for songs in a set list. You can monitor your playing without entering a target. A target is a reference, not a requirement for measuring tempo.
Can I use an external microphone?
The phone microphone is the simplest way to get started. External microphone behavior depends on your Android device, microphone, and connection. If you use an external microphone, connect it before starting and check that the app responds to sound from that input. Compatibility with every microphone is not guaranteed.
What if the reading is missing or seems too high or low?
Check that microphone permission is enabled and monitoring is not paused. Play a steady pattern and give the app time to establish a reading. Try adjusting the phone’s position or microphone sensitivity so it can hear the kit clearly.
Extra hits, subdivisions, and other rhythmic sound can affect tempo detection, including readings at half or double the expected tempo. A target BPM will not force the reading to match. Check the sound reaching the microphone rather than changing the target to correct it.
Does Live Drummer record or upload my audio?
No. The app processes microphone sound while listening, but does not save or upload audio. You can manage microphone permission in Android settings. Read the privacy policy for more information.
